For decades, recruitment has largely followed the same sequence:
CV → Screening → Interview → Hire.
But what if there were a better way to identify emerging talent?
What if, before inviting a candidate to interview, an employer could see how that person thinks, approaches a problem, communicates a solution and proposes a way to deliver real work?
That is the idea behind Nap OS Recruit.
Employers post projects. Candidates demonstrate capability through project proposals before the interview.
Nap OS Recruit is being developed by Napblog Limited as part of the wider Nap OS workforce platform, with a simple ambition: help employers move from CV-based hiring towards project-based hiring.
The goal is not to eliminate the CV or the interview. It is to introduce something valuable before them: evidence of capability.
The problem with CV-first hiring
For employers, hiring graduates, students, career changers and candidates without extensive local experience can be difficult.
A CV can tell an employer:
- where someone studied;
- what qualifications they have;
- where they previously worked;
- what skills they claim to have;
- what projects they say they completed.
But a CV does not always answer the question employers ultimately need to answer:
Can this person actually do the work?
This creates a difficult Catch-22.
Candidates are told they need experience to secure employment.
Employers want experienced candidates because they need confidence that someone can contribute.
Students and graduates therefore struggle to obtain the very experience employers request.
Nap OS is designed to break that cycle by creating opportunities to demonstrate capability through projects.
Introducing Nap OS Recruit
Nap OS Recruit creates a different starting point for the hiring conversation.
Instead of an employer simply asking:
“What experience does this candidate have?”
the employer can ask:
“How would this candidate approach a real project?”
The process is straightforward.
Employer
Create a project-based opportunity
↓
Define the challenge, expected outcome, skills and timeframe
↓
Candidate
Submit a project proposal
↓
Demonstrate their understanding, approach and capability
↓
Employer
Review the proposal
↓
Identify candidates worth progressing
↓
Interview
↓
Hire
The project proposal therefore becomes an additional evidence layer between the CV and the interview.
From “Tell me” to “Show me”
Traditional recruitment often asks candidates to tell employers what they can do.
Nap OS Recruit introduces an opportunity for candidates to show how they would do it.
For example, an employer looking for a Data Engineer could create a project such as:
Build a Data Pipeline
Remote
1 week
Approximately 1 hour/week
Data Engineering
Verification available
Instead of asking candidates only to submit a CV, the employer can invite them to propose how they would approach the project.
The candidate might explain:
- how they understand the problem;
- what technologies they would use;
- how they would structure the solution;
- what assumptions they would make;
- what the expected output would be;
- how they would measure success.
The employer then has something more meaningful to evaluate than a list of keywords.
They can see how the candidate thinks about the work.
The project becomes the bridge between employer and candidate
We see project-based hiring as a professional way for employers and candidates to establish working compatibility before making a hiring decision.
The employer gets an opportunity to understand the candidate’s approach.
The candidate gets an opportunity to demonstrate capability.
Both sides gain information.
That is particularly important for early-career hiring.
A student may not have five years of employment history.
A recent graduate may not have previous Irish work experience.
A career changer may have transferable skills but an unconventional CV.
A talented candidate may simply have been unable to get the first opportunity.
A project can give these candidates another way to demonstrate what they can do.
Why should employers participate?
Nap OS Recruit is not asking employers to abandon their existing recruitment processes.
Instead, we are inviting employers to experiment with an additional evidence-based layer.
1. Discover emerging talent
Some of the strongest candidates may not have the strongest CVs.
Project-based opportunities can help employers identify candidates who demonstrate potential, curiosity, problem-solving ability and practical capability.
2. Reduce reliance on CV claims
A candidate’s CV remains useful.
But it can be complemented with evidence of how the candidate approaches a real challenge.
3. Create structured opportunities
Employers can turn appropriate business challenges into defined project-based opportunities with clear objectives and expectations.
4. Support graduate and student employability
Employers can contribute directly to developing the next generation of Irish and international talent.
5. Build an early talent pipeline
Instead of meeting a candidate for the first time when they apply for a permanent vacancy, employers can engage with potential talent earlier through projects.
6. Identify candidates before traditional recruitment
The project can become an early signal of who deserves further consideration.
This is bigger than another job board
Nap OS Recruit is not intended to simply reproduce the traditional job board model.
A conventional job board primarily connects:
Vacancy → CV → Employer
Nap OS is building towards:
Project → Proposal → Demonstrated Capability → Interview → Hire
That difference matters.
The unit of interaction is no longer only the job application.
It is the project.
And the candidate’s application is not simply:
“Here is my CV.”
It becomes:
“Here is how I would approach your problem.”
That creates a richer conversation between employers and candidates.
Verification adds another layer of trust
Project-based hiring is only part of the Nap OS vision.
The wider Nap OS platform is designed around building evidence of real work and verified experience.
The journey is:
BUILD → DEVELOP → VERIFY → DEMONSTRATE → INTERVIEW → HIRE
Nap OS Free enables people to start building project experience.
Nap OS Workforce, currently positioned at €49.99/month, provides a structured 1-to-1 managed project experience through Napblog Limited, helping participants develop capability and build work evidence.
Nap OS Recruit then creates the employer-facing opportunity to connect that capability with project-based hiring.
The objective is to create a continuous workforce journey rather than a one-time job application.
Early traction behind the idea
Nap OS is not starting this conversation purely as a concept on paper.
Napblog Limited has launched a commercial MVP and currently has 10 paying Workforce members generating €500 in monthly recurring revenue, equivalent to €6,000 ARR.
The company also has one confirmed €500/month employer Letter of Intent and is in active discussions with two technology companies.
More than 50 former Napblog/Nap OS participants have progressed into internships, graduate programmes or employment across organisations including Accenture, Amazon, JPMorgan Chase, ServiceNow, Bosch Rexroth, Circle K and Blip Payments.
Nap OS has also been developing relationships across the Irish higher-education and innovation ecosystem, including university engagement and employability-focused discussions.
These experiences are helping shape the platform around a practical question:
How can we create a better bridge between people who need experience and employers who need evidence of capability?
Why we are inviting Irish employers now
Nap OS is now looking to work with more Irish employers to test and develop the Nap OS Recruit model.
We are particularly interested in employers who are willing to create meaningful project-based opportunities for:
- students;
- recent graduates;
- international graduates;
- career changers;
- early-career professionals;
- people seeking their first opportunity in a new sector.
The projects do not necessarily need to be large.
A project could involve:
Data analysis.
Software development.
Market research.
Digital marketing.
Business analysis.
Content creation.
Operations.
Product research.
AI experimentation.
Customer research.
Process improvement.
The important factor is that the project provides an opportunity for a candidate to demonstrate relevant capability.
Employers can help change the experience requirement
There is a powerful role for employers in solving the experience Catch-22.
Instead of asking:
“How can we hire someone who already has experience?”
we can also ask:
“How can we give capable people an opportunity to demonstrate experience?”
That is the shift Nap OS wants to facilitate.
Employers do not have to lower their standards.
In fact, the objective is the opposite.
Give candidates a clearer opportunity to demonstrate those standards.
The employer still evaluates the quality of the work, the proposal, communication, technical capability and suitability for the role.
But the candidate has a genuine opportunity to prove themselves.
From project to employment
The ultimate objective is not simply to create more projects.
It is to create a pathway:
Project → Capability → Evidence → Verification → Interview → Employment
A candidate who successfully demonstrates capability through a project can potentially become part of an employer’s talent pipeline.
For employers, this creates a new way to discover people before they become obvious candidates through traditional recruitment channels.
For candidates, it creates an opportunity to build a record of what they can actually do.
And for universities and the wider workforce ecosystem, it creates another mechanism for connecting education, practical experience and employment.
An invitation to Irish employers
Nap OS is now inviting Irish employers to become part of this experiment in project-based hiring.
You can help us by creating a project that reflects a genuine business challenge, emerging opportunity or practical piece of work.
You do not need to completely redesign your recruitment process.
You simply need to ask:
“What could a candidate demonstrate to us before we invite them to interview?”
That could become your first Nap OS project.
You may discover a candidate who would never have made your traditional shortlist.
You may discover someone whose CV does not immediately stand out but whose approach to a real problem does.
And you may help someone overcome the very first barrier that prevents them from gaining experience in the first place.
The future of hiring should include evidence
The CV is not disappearing.
The interview is not disappearing.
But between the two, there is an opportunity for something more powerful:
Evidence.
Nap OS Recruit is building a model where employers can create opportunities for candidates to demonstrate capability through projects before the interview.
Employers post projects. Candidates demonstrate capability through project proposals before the interview.
That is the foundation of Nap OS Recruit.
And we are inviting Irish employers to help us build it.
Have a project? Let’s turn it into an opportunity.
Create a project. Meet emerging talent. Evaluate capability. Build your future workforce.
